The following is the procedure for diagnosing oral cancer patients:

  • A thorough medical history and physical examination are required.
  • To rule out any other secondary malignancies, an indirect laryngoscopy is performed.
  • To determine the degree of the disease, a CT or MRI scan of the head and neck region is used.
  • Routine lab tests, such as complete blood count (CBC), liver function tests, and kidney function testing
  • X-ray of the chest (to rule out lung metastasis)
  • CT scan with PET (if there is the risk of distant metastasis)
